How I Made A Sleeveless Top With a Neck Tie and a High Waist Palazzo Trouser
Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗
In this post I will be sharing with you how I made this elegant two-piece outfit that features a sleeveless top with a neck tie and a high waist palazzo trouser.
The outfit was made for one of my first time customer whom I met recently at the gym. We got talking and during the course of our conversation I told her that I'm a fashion designer and she told me she has some fabrics that she want to sew. She told me she will visit me at my fashion shop.
She eventually visited my shop after some days and we started discussing the type of outfit we were going to make for her. After considering different options she decided to go for this sleeveless top and palazzo trouser. She has a seminar to attend sometime next month, so she needed a befitting outfit for the event. The style looks very elegant and comfy.
Materials Used
- 4½ yards crepe fabric
- Elastic
- Matching thread
- Tailoring chalk
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Pressing iron
Measurements
- Shoulder – 16"
- Bustline – 47"
- Upper bust – 43"
- Half length – 20"
- Waist – 48"
- Hip – 55"
- Crotch – 39"
- Trouser length – 45"
- Lap – 33"
Step by Step
I begin by drafting the bodice pattern using the shoulder, upper bust, bust and half length measurements. I drafted the front and back bodice and made sure to give enough allowance around the bust area considering the customer had a 47" bust measurement.
After that I worked on the neckline of the top. The neckline has a neck tie that can be tied to form a bow. To create the tie, I cut a long strip of the crepe fabric, joined it with the right sides facing each other and turned it properly. It would be attached around the neckline as the process continues.
Next, I cut out tge front bodice and back bodice pieces from the crepe fabric and I set it aside. I also cut out the facing that will be used to give the neckline a neat finishing.
Next, I joined the front piece and back piece together at the sides and shoulders and I rounded up with the armholes.
Then I joined the neck tie that i have cut earlier to the neckline and gave the seams and neckline a good press to make them sit flattened and neat.
Next, I continued by drafting the palazzo trouser pattern using the customer's waist, hip, crotch, lap and trouser length measurements.
The palazzo is flare so the upper part was smaller around the waist and hip then it gradually widened as it moved down just about the knee towards the down part to create the beautiful palazzo flare effect.
I cut out the front and back trouser pieces and joined them together starting from the inner legs and worked my stitches up to the crotch area. The I joined the two pieces at the crotch and ensured it was comfortable.
Then I created a waistband by cutting out a strip using the crepe fabrics, i joined it together and created room for elastic. I inserted the elastic into the waistband and matched it with sewing machine to hold it down. Then I attached it to the waist of the trouser neatly.
Then the bottom of the palazzo trouser will be neatly hemmed and the entire top and trouser will be given a good press.
For finishing touches I placed the outfit on my mannequin checked for any areas that needed adjustment.
Thank you for reading and see you in my next one.
