What does your tapestry look like? Is it vibrant and are the threads woven into it colourful and bright? Don't worry, it's a rhetorical question you don't need to answer...It was something I asked myself today though. You see, I was going through some images, selecting them for a post I'm doing tomorrow, the #weekend-engagement topic post, actually. I was going through a lot of photos from all the places I've been looking for things I'm passionate about and that particular question popped into my head.
I can't remember where I picked up the concept, but for a long time now I've seen my life as a work in progress, a tapestry into which are weaved the threads of my life I suppose you could say. I do things, experience things, and they become a part of my life, almost indistinguishable as isolated events and occurrences - Simply a small part of the whole.
Whilst looking through those photos today I clicked into folders and scrolled through hundreds of images, some good and some pretty average, but all a split second of my life captured forever - It brought back the memory of the event and those around it, the feeling of happiness, sadness, contentment, a quickening of my heart in desire to be back there or to create even more memories in other places and times. Most were whilst we were on vacation or camping trips, but not all. They had one thing in common though - They are all threads that I've woven into the fabric of my life, and I cherish them all.
I think it's easy to forget, in the troubled pandemic times we face right now, that life isn't just a single moment, the here and now; Life encompasses many moments, thoughts and feelings and spreads itself across the entirety of our lives. It's always going to take twists and turns, swing this way and that, and of course can't always be exactly what we would like it to be. It's at the down-moments when it is most important to recall that, in my humble opinion anyway.
I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, taking a look at these images now and then, feeding my soul with the positive energy I find through immersing myself in the up-times of life always seem to have an uplifting effect on me - Like it did today.
All of us have a life-tapestry and everything we do, good bad or indifferent, becomes woven into it whether we like it or not. The bad helps make the good feel great and the good is there to remind us that the bad doesn't endure forever; I guess it's most important to keep working towards those moments which create vibrant and colourful threads for us to weave.
Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default - Tomorrow isn't promised.
Be well
