Living my life feels hectic at times; I'm not complaining, I have a nice life and focus on owning it, being the driver rather than a passenger, but at times...yep, hectic.
It's been that way since...well, I guess for as long as I can remember and this year has been somewhat more of a whirlwind and it feels like I've not stopped to take a break (which I haven't) or to find very many moments in which I can recharge. I've done the typically-me thing of forging ahead no mattter what.
I found one this morning though - created one - a simple coffee at one of the cafes I like, and an hour or so to read a book on my Kindle.
I'm not sure how others feel about it, but a moment of simple stillness does wonders for the way I feel and sort of tips the balance back to a central point from which I can operate better, more efficiently and effectively. I'm not one of those pompous wankers who puts it down to good coffee, that's bullshit, although coffee was involved; simple stillness isn't reliant on external things, it's about placing distance between the every-day and oneself, finding stillness within the mind and body and allowing everything to melt away, or be held at bay, for a little while.
I do this in many different ways and it's about how I allow myself to react to or absorb external inputs - by this I mean I shut them out - and that always brings me the ability to function better.
Do you understand what I mean by "simple stillness" and what might that look like for you? Do you seek to find it or do you not recognise the benefits of putting a gap between your mental and emotional self and the world external to you?
