Chou-fleur is cauliflower in French. What fascinates me in French cooking is the simplest and easiest to make dishes explode in delicious flavor. Their secret is-butter.

My husband used to cook this for me during our first year living together. It's extremely simple to do. I can eat this alone or as a staple to meat. This pan-fried cauliflower dish is known as chou-fleur à la poêle, a perfect staple to everything.

The first time I opened my in-laws' kitchen cabinet, I was amazed by how empty their spice shelf was. Salt, Pepper, Wine Vinegar, and Oil are typically the only habitants. Click here if you want to see how their typical kitchen looks like.

My home kitchen cabinet, on the other hand, is stuffed with a huge variety of spices craving for more shelf space. The French are fond of using fresh herbs from the potager to spice up home-cooked meals.

My MIL's creed is to allow the natural flavors of every ingredient to stand out. Usually, they make wonders with just salt and pepper (ahem butter).

Ingredients:

1 Cauliflower, big, cut into florets
Salt, as per taste
Dash of Black Pepper
2 tablespoons of Salted Butter

Directions:

Wash well and steam the cauliflower florets until tender.

Once they're steamed, set them aside.

In a non-stick pan, over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter.

Gently toss the Cauliflower into a wide skillet and allow them to fry. Add a generous dash of black pepper and salt to taste. Add another tablespoon of butter (add more if you prefer)
Stir occasionally until they turn to a golden brown. Serve hot.

Et Voila!

Bon Appétit!

A great side dish to meat which tastes great even without garlic. I'd be happy to have this cauliflower dish alone several times a week if only cauliflower is cheaper in the Philippines. This is a healthier alternative to mashed potatoes and white rice.

We were invited for dinner last night by one of our neighbors in the new community we have recently moved into. Coincidentally, they served this casserole dish with a twist, adding more buttery cream and cheese into it. The serving dish was empty by the time we returned to the buffet table for a second serving.

Thank you for reading and I wish you all a relaxing weekend!
