I suspect every park all over the world has a group of dog walkers that can be compared to the TV show Last of the Summer Wine and our local park is no different. Most mornings I bump into at least four or more of the regulars doing the circuit all of whom are clearly in their late 60's early 70's and it's uncanny how some of them resemble in mannerisms the characters in the hit TV show. One of the guys is a real ladies man just like Compo, never missing an opportunity to flirt or at the very least speak to any lone female generally with the innocuous phrase "Come on now! You're late today." we have the quiet, thoughtful character Clegg who is forever moaning how it takes them ages to get around the park. We don't have the ex-military Foggie character although one of the guys carries himself like ex-military. They don't get up to any hilarious antics but they do have a bench pegged out at the top of the park where they can look down over the landscape while putting the worlds to rights.
I Love em! Or to be more precise, I love winding them up. Most mornings the topic of conversation is what hospital appointments they have, who's been locked down? how much is all this Furlough gonna cost? After joining in the conversation for a while "I was hoping it would be eighteen months to two years before the Tax jumped up but now I reckon it'll be the beginning of next year!" I said. 'The Lads', they love it when I call them lads, all nodded in agreement whereupon I dropped in my wind up. "Course, it won't affect you lot with your pensions, and don't you start with that I've worked all my life routine your pension pots were used up years ago it's my Tax that's paid your pensions for that last twenty odd years."
To be fair to me they all walked off laughing, I think they're used to me by now.
