Greetings everyone, and welcome to my blog.
A few weeks ago, I noticed something in several local supermarkets: the shopping carts were lined with green mats—the kind used as artificial grass. I didn’t stop to ask about it the first time I saw them because I was in a rush. Later, a friend posted a photo on WhatsApp showing one of her pets inside one of these carts.
Her name is Estrella—the little sister of Luna and Venus, the Golden Retrievers I mentioned in a recent post. She’s still a puppy, which is why her "mom" can take her along to the supermarket; the other two are fully grown, so I imagine that wouldn’t be quite as easy! That was the moment I really started thinking about the policy of allowing pets into shopping centers—something that is generally prohibited in most places.
This week, I read the posted rules at one of the grocery stores I frequent and learned about the "Pet-Friendly" trend—a concept where pets are welcomed. It’s currently being implemented in select hypermarkets across the country. Here in El Tigre/Tigrito, I’ve only seen it at Más x Menos and Aikoz—that’s three locations in total between the two cities.
I looked into the topic, and various sources explain that businesses or commercial establishments that embrace this trend allow customers to bring in their domesticated dogs and cats. Naturally, "pet-friendly" policies include specific rules governing entry, the duration of the visit, and the behavior expected of both the pets and their owners.

According to what I read online, the primary rules include:
Pets must wear a collar and leash at all times while inside the establishment. Constant supervision of your pet
Carrying bags to clean up waste
Using designated pet areas
Ensuring your pet is properly hydrated and fed

At the Hipermercado Más x Menos supermarket, there is a rather lengthy notice at the entrance that states the following:
Pets must be clean and free of both internal and external parasites; they must remain inside shopping carts and be kept on a leash or chain. Pets belonging to breeds considered dangerous are not permitted, nor are pets accompanied by children or adolescents. Furthermore, owners must keep an eye on their pets at all times.
These are some of the "pet-friendly" rules established by that supermarket; I assume other stores follow a similar approach.
Well, my two dogs are—to put it mildly—a bit hyperactive. As for my kittens, none of them are particularly well-behaved, as they get nervous in crowded places. I believe the only way to bring pets to a store like this is if they are very well-trained, calm, and accustomed to being around the public.
I’ve seen other pets, but I don’t have photos of them in my collection; the photo of Estrella is courtesy of her "mom."
Thanks for visiting my blog—I hope you all continue to have a wonderful weekend!
