My First Midnight Cycling Adventure... Exploring Singapore While Everyone Sleeps

Since it was Friday, I originally planned to go for my usual night cycling. However, I had a few errands to settle first, and those errands ended up postponing my cycling much later than expected.

By the time I was finally free, it was already past midnight!

At first, I thought about just cancelling the ride and doing it another day. But somehow, the idea of cycling after midnight also sounded interesting. I had never really done a proper midnight cycling session before, so I thought, why not give it a try?

And so my cycling adventure started at around 1:00 AM.

I honestly thought it would feel a little weird cycling at this hour because most people were already sleeping. I expected the roads and cycling paths to be completely empty.

Surprisingly, I still encountered other cyclists along the way!

Seeing them somehow made the experience feel less strange. Apparently, I wasn't the only person who thought cycling at 1 or 2 in the morning was a good idea LOL.

What I enjoyed the most was how peaceful everything became.

The cycling paths that are normally shared with plenty of pedestrians and other cyclists were almost completely empty. For several stretches of the journey, it really felt like I owned the entire pathway.

There was something relaxing about cycling through the city while everything around me had already slowed down. The roads were quieter, the neighborhoods felt calm, and even familiar places looked completely different under the streetlights.

Every time I stopped at a pedestrian crossing, I used the waiting time to take some photos.

I actually find crossings very interesting at night. Even though the streets were quieter, there were still cars passing occasionally, and their headlights added some movement and energy to the photos. The bright road markings, traffic lights, buildings, and dark sky created that late-night city vibe that I really enjoy photographing.

Along the way, I also passed brightly lit places that immediately caught my attention. One of them was a colorful temple glowing beautifully in the middle of the quiet neighborhood. I also passed Ang Mo Kio Town Centre, where some shops were already closed while a few places still had their lights on.

It was interesting seeing these normally busy areas during their quietest hours.

Halfway through my cycling adventure, I stopped by a grocery store to buy some fruits and snacks for later. It was a nice little break before continuing the journey.

From there, I continued cycling through empty pathways, bridges, residential areas, and roads underneath the MRT tracks.

Eventually, I finished my ride at around 4:00 AM.

That means I spent about three hours cycling in the middle of the night!

My first midnight cycling experience was definitely fun, peaceful, and also slightly weird in a good way. There is something special about exploring the city during the hours when almost everyone else is asleep.

I wouldn't say I'm going to start cycling until 4 AM every weekend LOL, but this is definitely an experience I would love to try again someday.

Another unexpected cycling adventure completed!

See you on my next wandering!
