Hello, Ladies of Hive!. I appreciate @cautiva-30 for choosing this reflective topic. This entry answers the first question:
1️⃣ I invite you to see yourself where you want to be, and not where others have placed you or think you ought to be. Is your life a reflection of other people's opinions—your parents', family's, friends'? Or have you actually done what you've wanted and dreamed of?
I have parents who did not choose a career for my siblings and me. They would rather make suggestions, and then it's up to you to change or continue. Their choices about social life and morals affected me while growing up.
I have always been an extrovert. I love exploring, but my parents understood extroversion as being too playful and lacking concentration. Their very strict and restrictive parenting affected my social life. Now that I am grown, I have become an introvert, and this is because of my parents' choices.
My career path was not affected. The course I studied was my choice, and my parents supported me, but they chose the institution for me, one closer to home.
Before I entered school, I had always envisioned living somewhat independently of my parents. But their choice of a school close to home meant I did not get to experience school life to the fullest. There was no freedom, and I hated it.
Their choices for me felt limiting because, had I gone far away from home, I would have learnt how to survive independently from an early age. Though their upbringing helped me focus on my studies and spirituality, I still feel I missed out on some experiences. Now, I am learning how to live my life without them. I have not become the girl I envision. I am still discovering her.
