ARE YOU LIVING FOR YOU, OR FOR SOMEONE ELSE?

Hello everyone, happy new week and welcome to my blog.
Have you ever had a dream, not just any dream but an imaginary dream of how you want your life to be? In fact you already imagine yourself living in it.
But end up tossing it away because of a loved one. Or you want to make someone else proud.
When I was a teen I didn't know what I wanted and that's because I lacked information.
NOTE: Do not trap your kids in the four walls of your home thinking you're protecting them. Information is very important.
So back to my story.
Back then I didn't have friends and my aunties and uncles who are more experienced are far away so I just agree to every decision my parents make for me.
After my secondary school, everyone was busy writing exams, trying to gain admission into their dream school, choosing the course they want to study etc.
But me on the other hand has no plans because I've never made any decisions for myself. I was waiting for my parents to choose, especially my dad.
He picked my course, the school he wanted me to attend, the center where I'm to write my jamb exam. I had no say and I wasn't against any of it because I thought they knew what was best.
Then the result came out and I didn't meet up with the cut-off mark.
Panic set in, I didn't know what to do, my dad tried to convince me to reseat for jamb again and my mum advised I should go to a nursing school instead. Nobody asked what I wanted and even if they do, I wouldn't have had an answer back then
Out of pressure I decided I need a change of environment from my parents at least to figure out what I want, not what someone wants for me.
And I'm glad I took that bold step.
Since I love being a science student, I did my research on related courses.
I picked 3 and I sought my mum's opinion. She suggested I choose MLT (MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN). So I did my research again and today I'm glad I chose that course.
You will agree with me that self discovery is very important.
I know my parents want what's best for me. But I also need to understand and discover what's best for me too, not relying on what people say.
For example a child who is always praised to be very brilliant will have to live up to peoples expectation and becomes scared to ask questions.
Or a child who people look down on and call all sorts of awful names because he/she is slow and quiet.
With time they will create that idea in their head and believe they are up to no good and that's because they were not given the opportunity to prove who they truly are.
Self discovery is not about cutting people off.
It's about acknowledging your feelings.
And it requires time too. You can't discover who you are in a day so it requires patience especially for someone who has been living to other people's expectations.
When I took that step and decided to change my environment a lot of things became difficult.
Like choosing what to wear, what to study and more. But with patience I begin to discover myself piece by piece.
I started learning how to interact with people, seeking advice because at the end of the day we all need guidance.
I started learning new things though I make mistakes during the process but I learn from it too.
So you don't have to be ashamed.
Society will always have something to say, don't let that draw you back.
Yeah! You may not become everything you dreamed of or imagined but knowing what you can become is a bold step.
Thank you so much for stopping by and I wish you a lovely week.
Bye for now ❤️
