I woke up today with fire in my body and a new perspective. I did a few things that I usually wouldn't be comfortable doing and I felt energized during and after doing them. It is true that most of what makes up our personality are learned inhibitions. The things we have been shamed and cajoled into doing or not doing, often become a part of who we are.
I tried this a few days ago too, doing something I originally wouldn't do, something that had my heart thumping. I nearly got into trouble for it, but I didn't regret doing it because I wasn't doing anything wrong. That's it, some of these things that I have been learning to do, aren't wrong in any way, but they are things that I wasn't used to doing or things I found uncomfortable doing.
Where does the discomfort come from?**
What people would say, or the image we have of ourselves sometimes limit us in many ways. Sometimes we place a ban on the free and exploratory movement of our spirit, our consciousness, thereby limiting its capacity to attain greatness.
The discomfort we feel stepping out of our comfort zone is line stepping out of a place that has been directly or indirectly designated for you buy somebody else. And for a very long time. The moment you step out of that zone, you'd feel an initial discomfort and you'll have lots of questions going through your mind.
Would they be angry that I left this spot?
Can I survive outside this my designated spot?
The way we do things, every day things, when internalised, become second nature. We start to feel that we are not capable of doing those things any differently than we have been doing them.
The encouraging thing about doing things you are uncomfortable with is, it helps strengthen your resolve and fan the fire burning inside of you. The more you do the uncomfortable, the more you build a different side of you that you have left dormant a long time ago. This leads to a more complete you.
