We live in a home where the world demands more from us, and other than that, we ourselves are delving into different ways we can accumulate wealth, and in our bid to accomplish all these, we might sometimes get so preoccupied that we'll have less time to spend with our family and loved ones or even time for ourselves as individuals. I've been in that situation before, and I know how it feels and the damage it can cause. And that's why everyone is always being advised to find a way to strike a balance between work and their personal lives. So how then do we do this in this time?
To be honest, it's easier to say you should strike a balance between work and personal life than to actually do it, and that's because the nature of individual work demands are different from those of others. Take, for instance, at my place of work recently, a memo was sent, and we were expected to do what's required in the memo within a week; however, upon closer inspection, I realized the memo ought to have been sent days earlier because the day it was sent happens to be the deadline for completion. And not to disappoint or put the department in a tight spot, I had to work to the dead of the night before leaving to meet my family.
Assuming it were my own business, I might have just done things at my own pace, but when you work for someone, we're mostly at the mercy of our employees or superiors to dictate what we do and when we do it to us. But then we must find a way to make sure we don't go against any employment contracts while trying to maintain a balance between our work and our personal lives. Outside that, we must learn to do things at the right time and give our all when we are at work so it won't be time to go and we'll still have things left undone for the day. We must also learn to cut work or tasks into bits to make sure they won't get us overwhelmed.
More important is having a schedule that guides what we do and also helps us operate at a specific pace that has been designed to put both our work and personal life interests into consideration. So that one won't affect the other.
