The journey across the lake grew dangerous as waves intensified and the route narrowed into flooded ruins. After scavenging debris and cracking a caged safe with an unusually easy code, the path forward opened. Leaving the ruins behind, the Ferris wheel finally came into clear view.
I steered the boat out onto the wavy lake, the engine humming as I navigated the open water. I decided to pull over for a moment near some debris to scavenge for supplies. In a world like this, you can't afford to pass up any potential loot, so I did a quick sweep to ensure I hadn't missed anything useful before moving on.
I continued my journey, but the water was becoming much more aggressive. High waves started rolling toward me, threatening to toss the boat around. It took some concentration to keep the vessel steady.
The waterway eventually narrowed, leading me directly through the ruins of several flooded buildings. I had to carefully drive the boat through the remains of what used to be offices and shops.
I eventually hit a dead end when I reached a heavy metal shutter that was firmly closed, blocking the path forward. I hopped off the boat to investigate the area on foot.
While exploring around, I spotted a safe sitting inside a locked cage. I knew right then that I wasn't leaving until I cracked it open.
I started searching for clues and stumbled across a dead body nearby. And there was a letter that contained the code for the safe. I think this is the first time I've found a safe code this easily. It felt like a bit of good luck.
With the code in hand, I just needed to figure out how to get inside the cage. I scouted the perimeter and found a gap at the top that allowed me to jump right in. Once I was inside the enclosure, the safe was finally within my reach.
I tried in the numbers from the letter and heard that satisfying click as the safe door opened up and I picked up the supplies.
I turned my attention back to the shutter blocking my boat. I expected to have to find a crank or a complex mechanism to keep it open, but it turned out to be surprisingly simple. I just slid the shutter up, and it stayed in place without any extra tricks, clearing the way forward.
I hopped back into the boat and resumed my journey, passing through the exit of the building and back into the open air. As I emerged from the ruins, I got a clear view of the Ferris wheel. It's looming large now, and it looks like I'm finally closing in on my destination.
We'll check what happens next in another post.
