After setting up light traps, Crane accidentally caused a blackout and had to fix a power substation. A giant zombie attacked me, but I defeated him by timing my hits. I sprinted through the dark past horde swarms to reach a safe house, and then I spotted a terrifying monster that was on my trail.
Spike gave the green light that the setup was looking good, so I went ahead and activated another light trap right in that area. My next task was to fix another device nearby, though I wasn't totally sure what it was until I walked up to it.
Turns out it was just another light trap, so I flipped the switch and got it online. The second I activated it, the entire district lost power and went completely dark. Spike immediately hit me up on the radio to let me know there was a power substation close by and asked me to go check it out.
Finding the power distribution panel wasn't hard at all since it was right around the corner. But just as I was reaching out to repair the panel, a giant zombie came barging through a door, and threw a total surprise attack.
This monster was massive and swinging a huge, heavy weapon around, which looked super intimidating at first.
The fight actually turned out to be pretty easy once I figured out the pattern. I just hid behind obstacles when he swung his weapon and stepped in to hit him right between his attack animations.
Once the giant beast was dead, I decided to explore the room he broke out from before touching the power panel. The room was full of dead bodies, probably left behind by that big monster.
Inside that back room, I found the real power distribution panel that actually needed fixing and got the power sorted out. Right after that, Spike warned me to find a safe house before night fell completely.
Looking at the map, the nearest safe zone was way off in the distance, which meant I had to make a really long run in the pitch black.
Running through the streets at night in this game is genuinely scary because you know how bad things can get in the dark. The streets were crawling with zombies, so I just sprinted as fast as I could and dodged around them to avoid getting trapped.
I managed to reach the safe house I unlocked earlier and slipped inside right before the horde on my tail could grab me.
But as Crane was closing the shelter door, he caught a glimpse of something totally creepy watching him from the shadows. It wasn't a normal zombie at all, it was covered in gross green blisters and moved way too fast before running off.
Crane asked Jade over the radio what that thing was, but she didn't have any answers either. Now I totally get why Spike was panicking about getting inside before dark. I just went straight for the bed to sleep through the night and skip the scary stuff outside.
We'll check what happens next in another post.
