I engaged Abby in a grueling knife fight in the ocean waves. Though Abby fought to survive, I eventually gained the upper hand and began drowning her. A sudden vision of Joel stopped Ellie, prompting her to spare Abby and let her sail away quietly with Lev.
Now that Ellie gave Abby a reason to fight, Abby charged at Ellie and tried to convince she was not looking for a fight, while Ellie was preparing to fight back putting her knife out.
It was so dramatic to see them actually fighting like this. In the past, Abby clearly would have overpowered Ellie, but things were different now. I attacked Abby with the knife while Ellie blocked her incoming strikes and countered.
Ellie landed a heavy stab right into Abby's arm. It quickly became clear that Ellie was overpowering her. Even so, Abby refused to hold back completely. She was no longer the same muscle we once knew, but she still had plenty of fight left in her.
She simply lacked the physical stamina to keep up with Ellie after going without proper food or water for who knows how many days tied to those pillars.
Watching this unfold, I found myself completely against the fight. I did not want to see Abby die. At the same time, I certainly did not want to see Ellie die either, because I developed a deep connection to both characters over this journey.
What I really wanted was for them to put their hatred aside and work together. Instead, Ellie pushed forward relentlessly, using her knife to stab Abby straight in the chest.
Abby managed to pull the blade free, kick Ellie back, and gain a moment of distance. She lunged forward to attack again, but I dodged the strike and counterattacked.
Abby still knew how to block incoming blows, though her weakened body could not defend against every angle.
Eventually, I landed a heavy punch that shattered Abby's defenses. Ellie pressed her advantage immediately, forcing Abby down into the shallow ocean water and attempting to drown her to death.
Desperate to survive one last time, Abby bit down hard on Ellie's fingers. Ellie remained utterly stubborn in her pursuit of revenge, determined to end Abby's life right there in the surf.
Just as she was on the verge of killing her, Ellie caught a sudden vision of Joel's face in her mind. The memory hit her hard enough to break the hold of her rage, and she abruptly let Abby go.
The brutal conflict came to an immediate halt as both of them sat exhausted in the water. Breathing heavily, Ellie quietly told Abby to take Lev and leave.
Without saying another word, Abby boarded the boat, pushed off into the water with Lev, and sailed away into the mist, leaving Ellie sitting alone on the shore.
We'll check what happens next in another post.
