Every class five student of the BTC High School usually owns a demonstration farm within the school premises. There, the student is expected to plant various crops and nurture it to maturity. Thereafter, the Agricultural Master will assess it and score the student. It forms part of his school assessment.
Dave is in class five and as the requirement of the school demands he owns a demonstration farm. In the said farm, he planted many crops such as maize, melon and other vegetables. To make his farm clean he weeded it during the weekend before he left school.
He had also prepared compost manure which he intends to apply to his crops in few days time. He was determined to emerge as the best agricultural student among his classmates. In the afternoon of a certain monday, Dave went to have a look at his school farm with the hope of applying the compost manure to his crops.
On getting to his farm, everywhere was quiet and the crops were all doing well. He nodded in appreciation of his tender care to his farm. After a while he noticed that the maize crops were swievering indicating that something was moving around that area. Dave became afraid and suspicious. He drew closer to have a better understanding of what was making the movement.
When he got closer he just couldn't believe what his eyes saw. A big green snake was struggling to strangle a rodent! Dave was filled with fear. He grabbed a stick and threw it towards that direction. The snake had entangled the rodent and was busy trying to sniff out any remaining life from it's catch. It didn't move initially. Dave threw another stick at it. This time it hit the snake and with full force it disentangled itself from the rodent and staterd crawling toward the direction of Dave.
Dave took to flight abandoning his footwears in the process. He ran with all his strength and was shouting for help. His friends heard his shrill voice and came out of their class and when Dave emerged he had no footwears on him, that is, his feet were bare. Gasping for air and panting, Dave narrated to his friends his encounter with the big snake in the farm. They laughed at him initially calling him a lilly livered fellow but later grouped themselves and went to the farm with clubs and matchets.
When they got to the farm they did not find the snake but they saw a rodent which was lying dead ostensibly from bites and venom the snake had given it.
