Eleven-year-old Velma Trent was watching a low-speed car chase – some teenagers were out joyriding in Tinyville, VA in a golf cart, and Capt. Ironwood Hamilton was chasing them through town in his F-150 Ford truck at low speed. Tinyville was not that big … so the chase kept coming down the same street in front of the Trent home.

“I see why he doesn't outright stop them,” Velma's 18-year-old sister Vanna said as she brought out some popcorn. “There is no world in which a car crash between that thing and a big truck that those joyriders survive, so he is going to let them run out of gas.”

“I think I can run down the street faster than that golf cart can go!” Velma and Vanna's nine-year-old brother Milton said, only to get yanked off his feet and back into the house by Sgt. Vincent Trent the instant he stepped off the porch.

“When you step down, but you go up instead,” Velma said. “That must be what the Rapture is going to feel like if you are tripping the moment it happens, except the Lord Jesus won't be mad.”

“I don't think Dad is mad – I think what we have seen is the pre-mad snatch up so that there is not a golf-cart-little-brother wreck,” Vanna said. “I mean, a golf cart versus Milton is about the same problem as a golf cart versus a F-150.”

“Do you realize that if we don't help Milton out, he is going to be on the same level of dumb as the folks joy riding in a golf cart?” Velma said.

“Nope,” Vanna said. “Vincent Trent is not their father. You're not old enough to remember, but Melvin was not always together like he is today – but you see how Melvin came out.”

Velma considered this.

“Well, wanting to live to grow up is a good motivation,” she said. “I mean, turning in your life over a ride on a golf cart makes no sense at all.”
