Unlike other cats who would sleep all the time, the Guard Cat decided that sleep was for lazy people. He prefers to wait wide awake.
He sits quietly in his position, with the calm that comes from accumulated wisdom. Beside him rest the mud-stained rain boots that belonged to his owner. The boots are a promise, a wish he clings to with all his claws.
No one taught him to count the days, but he knows that many have passed. And he also knows the meaning of absence. He knows there are no more footsteps in the house, no more lights on.
Sometimes he sniffs the boots, hoping to find some trace of his owner, but the scent fades a little more each day.
If the cat could count time, perhaps he would know that he no longer meows, that he no longer begs. He only guards his place next to the empty boots, hoping that one day, his litter box won't be empty.

A diferencia de otros gatos que dormirΓan todo el tiempo, el Gato GuardiΓ‘n decidiΓ³ que dormir era para los vagos. Γl prefiere esperar bien despierto.
Se sienta en su posiciΓ³n tranquilamente, con la calma que da la sabidurΓa acumulada. A su lado descansan las botas de lluvia, manchadas de barro, que pertenecieron a su dueΓ±o. Las botas son una promesa, un deseo al que se aferra con todas sus garras.
Nadie le enseΓ±Γ³ a contar los dΓas, pero sabe que han pasado muchos. Y sabe, tambiΓ©n, el significado de la ausencia. Sabe que ya no hay pasos en la casa, ni luces encendidas.
A veces olfatea las botas, esperando encontrar algΓΊn rastro de su dueΓ±o, pero el olor se desvanece un poco mΓ‘s cada dΓa.
Si el gato pudiera contar el tiempo, quizΓ‘ sabrΓa que ya no maΓΊlla, que ya no pide. Solo cuida su lugar al lado de las botas vacΓas, con la esperanza de que algΓΊn dΓa, su bandeja no estΓ© vacΓa.
