I don't know what to call it. Banana bread? Banana cake? Since my mother called it banana bread, I call it the same.

What made me wonder is that I don't use yeast to bake banana bread. But according to Wikipedia "Bread is a staple food prepared from a dough of flour and water, usually by baking." so I think I can call it bread.

Once I had a discussion with my partner about what bread is. According to him, pretzels are not bread. Some small sweet baked goods weren't bread either. I wonder if it is croissant bread ........... ? I'm living in Germany, the bread country 😊

My mother baked banana bread for breakfast and coffee time. I was happy that there was banana bread when I came back from school. She often baked it in paper cups so I could eat warm ones without cutting.

I leave a brief recipe here on Hive (it was almost lost once on Facebook 😢).

Ingredients

• Butter 40g
• Sugar 90g
• Egg 1
• Flour 170g
• Baking powder 2 tsp (tsp = teaspoon)
• Cinnamon 1/4 tsp
• Pinch salt
• Banana 2
• Walnut 40g
• Milk 2 tablespoon

Direction

1. Preheat oven to 175°C
2. Put baking paper in the baking tin
3. Mash bananas with folk and chop walnut
4. Make butter soft in the room temperature
5. Mix butter and sugar
6. Beat an egg and gradually add to 5.
7. Add flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt to 6. and mix roughly with a spoon.
8. Add banana and walnut to 7. and mix roughly with a spoon.
9. Add milk to 8. and mix roughly with a spoon.
10. Pour the batter in the baking tin and bake for 45-50 minutes.
11. Remove banana bread from the tin and baking paper. Let it cool down.

That's it!

I brought two slices of banana bread everyday to my painting work this week and had the slices as a snack in between. Finally, the front side of all the parts are painted. They will be the cover for the community garden containers.

バナナブレッド、バナナケーキ・・・母がバナナブレッドと呼んでいたので、私も同じように呼んでいます。

バナナブレッドをブレッド（パン）と言っていいのかなと迷うのは、イーストを使わないからな気がします。Wikipediaで調べてみると、"Bread is a staple food prepared from a dough of flour and water, usually by baking." とあるので、イーストは必須ではないようです。なので「バナナブレッド」でいいのかな。

以前、相方と「パンとは何か」という議論をしたことがあります。彼によると、プレッツェルはパンではありません。小さな甘いパンもパンではないようです。クロワッサンは・・・？パンの国、ドイツに住んでいることを実感します 😅

中高生のとき、母は朝食とおやつ用によくバナナブレッドを焼いていました。学校から帰るとバナナブレッドがあるとうれしかったです。私はパウンド型で焼くのですが、母は紙のカップで個々に焼いていることが多く、温かいものをすぐに食べやすかったのを覚えています。

せっかくなのでHiveに簡単なレシピを残します（Facebookで一度消えそうになったので・・・😢）。

材料

• バター 40g
• 砂糖 90g
• 卵 1
• 小麦粉 170g
• ベーキングパウダー 小さじ2
• シナモン 小さじ1/4
• 塩ひとつまみ
• バナナ 2本
• くるみ 40g
• 牛乳 大さじ2

#ディレクション

1. オーブンを175度に予熱する
2. パウンド型にベーキングペーパーを敷く
3. バナナをフォークでつぶし、クルミを刻む
4. 常温でバターを柔らかくする
5. バターと砂糖を混ぜる
6. 卵を溶き、5.に徐々に加える
7. 6.に小麦粉、ベーキングパウダー、シナモン、塩を加え、スプーンでざっくり混ぜる
8. 7.にバナナとクルミを加え、スプーンでざっくりと混ぜる
9. 9.8.に牛乳を加え、スプーンでざっくりと混ぜる
10. 10.天板に生地を流し込み、45～50分焼く
11. バナナブレッドを型とオーブンペーパーから外して冷ます。

完成です！

今週はペンキ塗りをしていて毎日2切れずつタッパーに入れて持っていって、作業の合間におやつとして食べました。中高時代が懐かしいなあ、祖父母や母がコミュニティーガーデン作るの見ていてくれるかななんて思いながら。昨日すべてのパーツの表側を塗り終えて、来週裏側を縫って、コミュニティガーデンコンテナのカバーとして組み上がる予定です。
