BIENVENIDO A MI RINCÓN
Hello, dear community! This is my first time posting here. Honestly, I wasn't very good at cooking—in fact, I wasn't good at all—but lately, I’ve really come to enjoy it. We have to eat every day, so it’s nice to mix things up and cook something delicious; that way, we don't get bored. It’s a great idea to make recipes that are fun and simple, but above all, tasty.
I wanted to make dinner for my mom and dad. I had sweet anise, Harina P.A.N., and oil, so I thought: why not make sweet anise arepas? The only thing I was missing was *papelón* (unrefined cane sugar), so I ended up using sugar instead.
**Ingredientes**
☕UNA HARINA PAN (CANTIDAD QUE QUIERA)
☕UN LITRO DE ACEITE (CANTIDAD QUE QUIERA)
☕AZÚCAR (AL GUSTO)
☕ANÍS DULCE (una bolsita)
**Ingredients**
☕Harina P.A.N. (desired amount)
☕Oil (desired amount)
☕Sugar (to taste)
☕Sweet aniseed (one small packet)
These little sweet *arepas* have a story behind them: my mom used to make them when I was little for us to snack on in the afternoon while watching TV or while she watched her soap opera. I remember that when I was older, I’d have them with a *café con leche*, and they tasted delicious. There was also a man who sold them on the way home from school; his were so tasty and puffed up that I always bought some after class.
💫☕🤍
Prepare a dough using *harina pan* or corn flour (whichever you prefer), a pinch of salt, and—as I did—three tablespoons of sugar. The dough shouldn't be too stiff or too runny; it needs to be manageable enough to shape with your hands. Add the sweet anise seeds and knead until the dough has a good consistency. While preparing the dough, heat a heavy-bottomed pot with plenty of oil so the *arepas* can puff up just the way we like them. Once they are golden brown on one side, flip them over; the process is very quick.

I made some small arepas using half a kilo of flour; not all of them puffed up quite the way I wanted, but they turned out delicious. Honestly, I think the trick is getting the oil really hot and not making them too thick. The cheese is essential, so I took the little bit I had left and divided it among the four of us, and I added ground meat to give it a divine touch. There was avocado—and you never say no to avocado—so I added that to our plates, too.
I apologize for the image quality; I didn't have electricity at the time, so they didn't turn out quite as nice, but you can still see the process. Thanks for making it to the end. Sending you a hug—and enjoy!
