ecoTrain Question Of The Week #10 : How do you deal with monsters? How tolerant are you?

QOTW10.jpg

Have you met any monsters recently? This past few months I have met quite a few, and i have to say that there seem to me far more monsters around then there used to be! By monsters I of course mean people... human beings, who for one reason or another have started to act out in ways that are violent, aggressive, paranoid, narcissistic, and any number of other traits. We live in difficult times, and it is fair to say that mental health is now a global issue that reaches every city, town, and even street in the world. It can be hard to know how to handle such situations, especially if someone is being very aggressive toward you. Things can turn quite nasty very easily, but also as i have witnessed on many an occasion, things can also be dealt with a minimal of fuss and fury.

So this week the QOTW asks you how you deal with these monsters? The monster can of course be anyone, including yourself if you have a monster inside. We would like to know what you do when you are attacked, especially without good reason, either verbally or physically. Do you have a way to handle such people, something you say, something you do? Perhaps you just leave, perhaps you call the police, perhaps you ask them why they are so angry, or perhaps you just hug them! i have once witnessed the magical power of an impromptu hug whilst being mugged at knife-point in Kings Cross at 3AM. I had no idea what to do, and froze. My good friend 'Psymon' waltzed right in and with great compassion and a very open heart just told him he needed a hug and just gave him a huge hug! This guy then simply walked away! amazing!

I would also like to tie in the theme of tolerance to this question. Tolerance seems to be a trait that we need in buckets right now, and it is not always clear if our society is becoming more or less tolerant. One one hand it seems we are more tolerant than ever, testimony to that fact was spotting gender neutral toilets in Heathrow Airport! On the other hand it really seems that people are less tolerant than ever when dealing with contradicting views. It isn’t hard to lose many good 'friends' on our social media by just saying one thing that others disagree with. I have accomplished that many times, as recently as last week when i dared to post something positive about President Trump.

We welcome everyone to join us, and share whatever you have to say. We're always happy to let you answer the question in any way you like.. and if you have anything to say about what you have seen regarding our collective mental health I would love to hear about it. Do you meet more people than you used to who have mental health issues? Do you work as a therapist or councillor? We would love to hear from you and what you have noticed are the most common monsters you see.

To help you on your way here are some very beautiful and special images to remind us all of some of the kinds of monsters and mental health issues we live with.
