#fridayfiles

I had a week that I thought was going to be crazy: it was. At one point I thought I'd not get through everything. Deadlines and then mother decided she was going on strike. Or thought she was. I began

I'll begin at the end, in a manner of speaking, with what went in the jar this week: a marinated courgette salad. I don't make it often, but when friends have a surfeit of zucchini, this salad with lemon

Friday (yesterday) was as normal as a normal Friday can be. I was also on light duty - unlike last Friday, which was, to say the least, frenetic. This week's agenda was short: the not negotiable sourdough

I didn't get to do my usual Friday Files yesterday because of PUD Business. I love my Fridays: in the kitchen and now that summer's approaching, happy forages and forays into the garden that have me heading

It was a particularly long day in the kitchen, yesterday. In addition to my usual bits, I also made a dozen quiches. I make these only occasionally: they are usually the realm of my market pal, Janet,

A couple of months ago, someone, who it turns out is a recent arrival in the village, bought bread from me. She turned down the offer of a bag. Before I could pick up the loaf and bag it, she produced

Yesterday felt quite normal. It seems a while since things felt that way. It was good and the day went according to plan because the list was not longer than the proverbial arm. I was even done in time

Friday was, of course, kitchen day. I didn't have a lot to do, so I decided that the latest gift - a consignment of ruby grapefruit - had to be dealt with. It's only the second time I've made this particular

For more than two years, the horse brasses at the bottom of our stairs lost their ornamental status. They became the mask rack. I hated it. Yesterday, they reverted to their original function. On Wednesday,

I was glad to see the back of yesterday. Without airing dirty laundry, our neighbours of four months, showed their unneighbourly true colours. They, or one, anyway, lives in fear of what happens in the

As usual, Friday was in the kitchen. It was supposed to have been a lighter day. It was, as far as cooking was concerned. It didn't stop the interruptions and I ended up in my usual time crunch. I guess

Yesterday was a long day and I didn't get through my list. I have to somehow get some of it done this weekend. Ahem... First up: litres of olives now in salt brine and safely tucked away and where they

Yesterday started off cool and everything going to plan. And mostly it did which gave me time for a little experiment. A while ago, when they visited, J & A gave me some tomato leather (very similar

This is how my day began: Rambo, not just on the bed, but contentedly resting on my leg. He remains a bit of a wonder even though he is very settled. He is very much a home body, not straying much beyond

Some of Friday's happenings. In no particular order, starting with an almost dusk view across the bottom of the garden under a mostly moody sky. Over the bed of shredded lettuces. Clearly, red is not flavour

The burgers eventually happened. This time, they are a beef and ostrich blend. I admit it's one of my favourites. As always, I begin with my secret ingredient: herbs, fresh from the garden. Now I have

Fridays and Saturdays are busy and I am inevitability AFK for most of the day. Yesterday's short stint in my weekend office was to round off February's Hive Power Up Day. That's the feline family waiting

Having bemoaned summer's tardy arrival, she made herself felt - in more ways than one on Friday. My list was long over ambitious. This is one of those times of the year when the market patronage is likely

We are so lucky living in a village. Most of our friends, like us, live in their bubbles which makes us a whole lot safer. Not only that, but as the age cohorts open up, more and more of our circle will
