A couple of months ago, someone, who it turns out is a recent arrival in the village, bought bread from me. She turned down the offer of a bag. Before I could pick up the loaf and bag it, she produced a cloth bag and the bread disappeared. That gave me an idea and I spoke to a friend of mine who told me she had a stash of muslin. We hatched a plan and she made a prototype.
We adjusted the size and this was the final result - with my hand-written branding.
Now, customers buying bread or buns from me at the market, now have the option of also buying a calico bread bag. Bread is better not stored in plastic and, best of all, this is washable and reusable.
I thought it kind of apt to be "launching" this in #plasticfreejuly. In the next while, I plan to share a little of my little efforts a both using less plastic, avoiding as far as possible, single use plastic, and trying to consistently repurpose glass jars for my market wares.
Friday was a marmalade day. Again. More of that in another post. Although the list was short, it was a bit of a juggle because of having to make the weekly special to go #inthejar.
