I've been thinking about what to post that the creators who participated in the initiative proposed by my friend @damarysvibra haven't already mentioned, and I think my love for nature, animals, and the environment in general has led me to reconsider my beliefs about the responsibility we must have with what gives us everything we need to live.
Every moment I hear news that gives me goosebumps about tree felling, the dumping of toxic substances in the sea, and barrels of oil spilling and killing thousands of species.
The same thing happens when I go to a beach and see the amount of trash people leave on the sand or the bottles and plastic cups they leave in the ocean. The same thing happens with the trash we throw on the street.
Often we don't realize that nature is crying out for us to take care of it because it will explode and won't be able to provide us with everything we need to live.
Faced with this and other problems I see every day, I ask myself:
Are we aware of how important it is to protect nature?
What effect do wars have on nature?
What future are we leaving for children with this ongoing environmental deterioration?
What can we do responsibly to save the planet?
I must say that we lack a lot of responsibility when it comes to interacting with the environment. And I say this from experience, because all the examples of pollution you mention above, the felling of trees, wars between countries, and many other examples are a testament to how irresponsible we human beings are.
And the worst part is that we are bequeathing a sick nature to future generations, because nature takes a long time to heal from all these wounds and never recovers from others.
At school, the teachers who taught these topics taught me how important it is to protect nature and the actions we humans can take to help conserve and develop it.
These are simple actions, but they have a huge impact on nature and are within our reach.
Plant a plant. This is one of the most important because of all the ways it helps protect the environment. It also protects the soil and the air.
Don't litter the streets. In many cities, garbage accumulates in the streets, and these are breeding grounds for pests and diseases, as flies, mosquitoes, and rats thrive there.
Do not pollute the waters of rivers, lakes, or oceans. Sometimes we think that a disposable plastic cup we throw on the beach has no consequences. But we don't know that plastic takes thousands of years to decompose and that much plastic is harmful to marine wildlife. In fact, this is the worst pollution we're seeing on beaches.
Let's hold community activities to talk about these issues and to get families involved consciously and responsibly in caring for and protecting nature.
