This book deeply moved me, as it demonstrates how we are all connected in some way. It tells the story of a Viennese boy who, in 1938—following his parents' deaths during the pogrom known as *Kristallnacht* (the Night of Broken Glass)—is forced to flee his country. His mother manages to put him on a train to England, where he grapples with loneliness, accompanied only by his violin; he becomes an accomplished musician there before eventually emigrating to the United States. Parallel to this, the book presents the story of Anita Díaz, a young girl forced to flee her home country of El Salvador. Due to immigration policies, she is separated from her family; however, she connects with people who lead her to her aunt Letizia, who works as a housekeeper for Samuel—now an elderly man—the very same Viennese boy I mentioned at the beginning of this summary.
Este libro me conmovió muchísimo pues es una muestra de que todos en este mundo de alguna manera estamos conectados. Nos cuenta la historia de un niño vienés que en 1938 tras la muerte de sus padres en el progromo conocido como La Noche de los Cristales Rotos debe huir e su pais, así que su madre logra subirlo a un tren rumbo a Inglaterra donde lidia con su soledad, acompañado solo por su violín, allí s evuelve un musico destacado y posteriormente emigra a los Estados Unidos. Al mismo tiempo nos muestra la historia de Anita Díaz, una niña que tiene ue huir de su país El Salvador, pero por politicas migratorias ella queda separada de su familia, sin embargo la niña queda en contacto on personas que la conducen a su tía Letizia quien trabaja como asistente en casa de Samuel, ya anciano, es decir, el mismo niño vienés del que les hablé al inicio de este resumen.
The book reveals the impact of war on everyone—but especially on children—showing how conflicts affect them and how they must mature at such a young age, separated from their parents and often learning to survive on their own until finally finding a compassionate soul. Yet, it also speaks to the importance of empathy and of people who work wholeheartedly for the well-being of others—such as Selena Durán, a young social worker, and Frank Angileri, a lawyer specializing in immigrants' rights.
el libro nos revela los impactos de la guerra en todos pero en especial en los niños, de que manera los afectan los conflictos, como tienen que madurar siendo tan pequeños, lejos de sus padres, aprendiendo a sobrevivir muchas veces por su cuenta hasta finalmente encontrar un alma piadosa, pero tambien nos habla de la importancia de la empatía, de esas personas que trabajan con el corazón por el binestar de otros, como Selena Durán, una joven trabajadora social, y de Frank Angileri un abogado que se especializa en derechos de los inmigrantes.
At the same time, the story seeks to draw a parallel between the Nazism that emerged in the 1930s and United States immigration policies—policies that have separated families, violated rights, and even led to killings in the name of "order." Regrettably, this serves as a reminder that history tends to repeat itself when other interests are prioritized over human rights; it is disheartening to see and realize that the world is not evolving, but rather heading toward its own destruction.
Al mismo tiempo la historia pretende establecer un paralelismo entre el nacismo que inició en los años 30 con las politicas migratrias de Estados Unidos que han separado familias, han vulnerado derechos y hasta han asesinado en nombre del "orden" Esto no recuerda lamentablemente que la historia de alguna manera se repite cuando se priorizan otros intereses por encima de los derechos humanos, y da tristeza ver y comprobar que el mundo no evoluciona, sino que se encamina hacia su propia destrución
Yet the book’s aura is not dark; on the contrary, it speaks to us of resilience, heroism, stoicism, empathy, and hope. Thanks to this, two characters who have suffered greatly—having both experienced separation and pain (Samuel and Anita)—manage to find one another, closing the circle and healing each other.
Pero el aura del libro no es oscura, al contrario, nos habla de resiliencia, de heroismo y estoicismo, de empatía y de esperanza, gracias a esto dos personajes tan sufridos porque ambos experimentaron la separación y el dolor (Samuel y Anita) logran encontrarse para cerrar el circulo y sanar mutuamente.
