Today, I want to take you to see a lovely spot in my hometown of Montalbán, Venezuela. My mother passed away just a couple of weeks ago; I had been staying there for a while due to her critical condition and subsequent death, as I handled the necessary arrangements. They were certainly hard, difficult days, but I find some comfort in knowing that my poor, elderly, and ailing mother is finally resting from her suffering. However, I returned to the town with my family last week for the *Novenario*—a Roman Catholic tradition involving the recitation of the rosary to pray for the repose of the deceased's soul. Naturally, the atmosphere was more quiet and contemplative, and this gave me the chance to discover a beautiful chapel in my town that—ironically, despite having lived there for many years—I had never visited before.
Hoy quiero llevarlos a conocer un bonito espacio de mi pueblo, Montalbán (Venezuela), recientemenmte murió mi madre, hace un par de semanas, así que estuve viviendo unos días allá por causas de su gravedad y luego su posterior fallecimiento, en lo que me encargaba de los trámites, fuern días duros y difíciles sí, pero al menos me complace saber que mi pobre madre anciana y enferma ya está descansando de su sufrimiento. Sin embargo recientemente, la semana pasada regresé con mi familia al pueblo para los Novenarios (una costumbre cristiana católica que tenemos donde se rezan rosarios para pedir a Dios por el descanso del alma del fallecido) obviamente en un ambiente y atmósfera más reflexivos y tranquilo, y esto me dio la oportunidad de conocer una capilla hermosa que está en mi pueblo y que irónicamente, a pesar de que viví muchos años allí, nunca había visitado.
It is a modest yet beautiful chapel, very well maintained, surrounded by lawns and plants that lend it an aura of absolute peace—perfectly in keeping with the activity we were carrying out there. I really liked this chapel, which is named after the Virgin of Mercy (La Virgen de las Mercedes)—the same name shared by the small square in front and the neighborhood where it is located. It also features antique-style lanterns that add a romantic touch; while they serve a decorative purpose, they are also functional, making the chapel look lovely at night as well.
Es una capilla modesta pero preciosa, muy bien cuidada, con mucho pasto y algunas plantas al rededor que le confieren un aura de paz absoluta, muy acorde con lo que estábamos llevando a cabo allí, me gustó mucho esta capilla que lleva el nombre de La Virgen de las Mercedes, mismo nombre que tiene la placita que está al frente y que también lleva el sector donde está hubicada. También tiene algunos faroles antiguos que le dan un toque romántico y a pesar de que sirven como ornamento tamabién son funcionales, haciendo que la capilla se vea preciosa también de noche.
The interior of the chapel is quite welcoming and very peaceful; there is an atmosphere of serenity, and the space is beautifully illuminated by those large windows. Truly, despite the lingering sadness in our souls caused by her absence, my heart rejoices in the knowledge that she is now on another plane—free from suffering, pain, and anything that might trouble her. All that remains is for me to ask God to bless her and grant her eternal peace.
El interior de la capilla es bastante acaogedor y muy apacible, se respira un ambiente de paz, está muy bien iluminada por esos grandes ventanales. De verdad que a pesar de la tristeza que aún tenemos en el alma motivada por la ausencia, en parte mi corazón se regocija al saber que ella ya está en otro plano donde ya no sufre, donde no existe el dolor ni nada que pueda perturbarla, así que solo me resta pedirle a Dios que la bendiga y que le permita descansar en paz.
Upon leaving the chapel, we noticed something that really caught our attention: a pair of horses wandering the town streets without saddles or owners—much like a couple of dogs. They bore a brand on their hindquarters, so I assume they belong to someone, yet there they were, roaming about—free and happy—which I found truly delightful.
Al salir de la capilla encontramos algo que ns llamó la atención poderosamente, un par de caballos que andaban sin montura y sin dueños por las calles del pueblo, como si se tratase de un par de perros, tenían una marca en la grupa así que supongo que pertenecen a alguien pero andaban por ahí así, libres y felices, lo cuál me complació mucho.
