It was a beautiful Saturday morning in Calabar. The sun was shining brightly, and the birds were singing in the trees. Three friends, David, Michael and James, decided to explore a nearby marsh behind their village.
As they walked through the marsh, they noticed something strange floating on the water. At first, they thought it was an old wooden box. However, as they moved closer, they discovered that it was a large metal container covered with mud and leaves.
Curiosity made them pull it out of the water. To their surprise, the container was very heavy. They struggled for several minutes before finally bringing it to dry land.
David carefully opened it with a piece of metal. Inside, they found some old photographs, gold-coloured jewellery, foreign coins and a mysterious handwritten letter. They were shocked by what they saw.
Suddenly, they heard footsteps coming from behind the trees. The boys became frightened and quickly turned around. An old man appeared and asked them where they had found the container.
After explaining everything, the old man revealed that the container belonged to his grandfather, who had disappeared many years ago during a terrible storm.
The boys immediately handed everything over to him. He was filled with joy and thanked them for their honesty.
The following week, the story spread throughout Calabar. The three friends became heroes in their community. They learnt that honesty and courage could bring unexpected rewards. It was an adventure they would never forget.
