This is my post on #freewriters3271 #dailyprompt lightning hosted by marinnewest@marinnewest's.
It was a beautiful evening in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. People were returning from work, traders were closing their shops, and children were playing outside their homes. Suddenly, dark clouds gathered in the sky, and a strong wind began to blow.
Within minutes, heavy rain started falling. Suddenly, a bright flash of lightning appeared across the sky, followed by a loud thunderclap. Everyone became frightened. Some children screamed and quickly ran into their houses.
I was sitting in the living room when another powerful lightning flashed. It illuminated the entire neighbourhood for a few seconds. My mother quickly advised everyone to stay indoors and avoid standing near windows or touching electrical appliances.
The electricity suddenly went off, leaving the whole neighbourhood in darkness. We could hear the sound of heavy rain hitting the rooftops.
After about an hour, the rain gradually stopped. The clouds disappeared, and the sky became peaceful again. People came outside to check their surroundings.
That night taught me that lightning is a powerful natural phenomenon that must never be taken for granted. I will always remember the frightening night of lightning in Uyo.
