I had a lengthy conversation with a group of people today. I don’t want to call them “like-minded” because we all have different beliefs and perspectives. We were discussing how a person’s background can influence their life and how it can propel someone to greater heights without much difficulty because the necessary support is already there.

The truth is that, at some point in our lives, we all need support to become who we are, at least at certain stages of life. For instance, as children, we need people to take care of us, whether they are our biological parents or not. Someone has to fill that vacuum and help us grow into teenagers. We also need support to get an education. I think this also depends on the society or country. For example, in some developed countries, a person can obtain a government loan to study and still achieve success. Although it may not be easy, it is still different from someone who does not have to pay for their education. No matter how much we try to argue otherwise, there is a clear difference.

Starting from zero is not easy, and achieving success, especially becoming wealthy, requires more than just hard work. I don’t think anyone can simply work their way to great wealth. A lot of leverage, opportunities, and support systems are usually involved, and such support is not always easy to come by.

One of the people we were talking with raised the issue that you can become successful with ₦50 million even without a support system. He argued that once the source of the money dries up, it becomes difficult to sustain yourself regardless of how much money you have. I agreed with him to some extent, but I also disagreed. If you can get hold of ₦50 million at once and you already have a business, it becomes easier to leverage that money as though it were a loan. However, if you behave as though you truly own the money and spend it carelessly, then problems are around the corner.

The truth is that we all manage resources differently, and where the resources come from also matters. Someone who gets money without working for it will most likely spend it carelessly, and it will soon be exhausted. That is just how life works.

Money on its own is useless. What matters is what we do with it. If you invest it wisely, it will yield returns. If you simply spend it, it may never come back to you. Money is like a seed that needs to be nurtured and put to good use before it can produce more.

The saying that you cannot eat your cake and still have it also applies here. You cannot expect to acquire money through fraudulent means and expect it to last in your hands. Whatever you do to earn that ₦50 million, if it is done legitimately, it can open the door to even greater opportunities over time. That is what I want you to understand.

Nothing comes without sacrifice, and how you make your money matters. No one becomes truly wealthy by luck or chance alone. Wealth is usually the result of prolonged, deliberate effort, wise decisions, consistency, and patience over time.
