The reflections community is for people who not only want to reflect on their life experience, but also want to discuss the practical steps they are taking to improve their situation, and that of the people around them. It isn't a place to spin topics, or to dribble the words of others - it is personal - a mirror of the self and the world that surrounds us directly.

Since some people can't seem to follow the rules of communities, it is good to repeat them from time to time. If you are suggesting to a friend to post into a community, explicitly tell them to follow the rules of the community they are going to post into - otherwise, they might get downvoted, muted, or ridiculed. The rules of the Reflections community aren't hard to follow as they are pretty much common sense, but it seems the some people still struggle. Anyway - follow them.

Topics

Tonight I added two more preferred topics to the list, SOCIETY and CULTURE as I find myself writing about them here a fair bit. But I thought I would also give a brief overview of each of the topics to prompt people to be intentional with their content creation, rather than just trying to shoehorn it in However, these are all so broad that pretty much anyone can write on them.

Add the relevant ones to your post:

Philosophy

I don't care to read a thesis on Plato, Socrates, or any other philosopher. Philosophy literally translates to "the love of wisdom" and can cover many areas, but I am interested in hearing your take on the world, your life philosophy. What do you observe, what understanding do you derive from it, and how do you apply it to your life. Combined with the other topics, there is so much that can be addressed and can give others an insight into unfamiliar conditions.

Psychology

Like above, I don't care to hear what Jung or Freud had to say, I want to hear about how you experience the world and how you observe your mind, behaviours, and the behaviours of others. I want your perspective, not the regurgitations of someone with a PhD in psychology.

Mindset

This is not just a theoretical topic, it is practical. We all have various strengths and weaknesses in how we think about the world, but how we perceive it drives our thoughts and actions also. Our mind is a creative force, and we can use it to improve ourselves and world, or tear them down. Sometimes, we might do both simultaneously. So, struggle or succeed, observe your mind, attitudes, and belief systems to discover where improvements can be made, or where others may be helped.

Family

Even with the most loving, considerate parents, none of us make it through childhood completely unscathed. We face all kinds of obstacles as an individual trying to navigate relationships, and we are highly influenced by the people around us - for better, and worse. That means we carry a lot of lessons from the past that we can call upon to help us, or harm us, and those around us. We are social animals, yet most of us do not explore the mechanics of relationships at all. This is a place we can.

Health

I don't ant to hear about your stubbed toe, or see pictures of it. Health covers four areas in my opinion, physical, mental, emotional, and social. This is a place to explore those four areas and discover opportunities to improve your wellbeing, and potentially help readers improve theirs too. Wellbeing is degrading globally across all of these factors. Let's do better, help each other, and be healthier.

Wellbeing

Another topic that is very open and is an umbrella for those four pillars of the self I mentioned just above. Wellbeing can also be looked at from a more generalised view of society or of a community and how it is affected by the environments in which we live. The standards and definitions of wellbeing might differ between locations and individuals, but I think we all might agree that increasing wellbeing should be where a lot of our resources are spent.

Society

We are social animals who are quickly forgetting how to socialise effectively. Instead of getting better at interpersonal skills and interaction, we are disconnecting from each other and reducing our capabilities, which creates a downward spiral for society. But, there are also many different forms of groups and they spread across beliefs and behaviours, for benefit or drawback. Don't shy away from discussing what matters, otherwise, nothing will change for the better.

Culture

Culture comes in many forms, but I don't really care much about the labelled culture that people subscribe to. I don't care for verses from the bible as if that is meaningful, because it isn't. Culture isn't what is believed, it is in what is done. It is behavioural, not theoretical.

Personal

This is a Reflections community, which means it has to be personal. This is not a place to reiterate (spin) the thoughts of others, it is a place to reflect on your individual experiences and present your thoughts and findings to an audience. Even if no one reads it and no one comments on it, it should have value to you and help you change your behaviours for the betterment of yourself. And when it comes to comments in this community, the same personal standard should hold true. You bring a unique perspective as you, if you are not writing as you, don't bother.

This will get pinned to the top of the community and maybe it will help people decide whether this is the place to submit, or give some basic directions of interest to follow. The bar here isn't high, the rules aren't difficult, and it shouldn't be hard to be yourself.
