Life is ephemeral, and we are only here for a while. There is no way we are going to get out alive, no matter how smart one has become. It is just the reality of life. As long as we are born, we will cease to exist one day. At some point in the past, we did not exist, so it is normal for us to cease to exist when the time comes. It is just that many of us wish we could grow old and fulfil our destiny and purpose for living.
So, this means that if we want humanity to continue, we have to procreate and give birth, just as our parents did for us. That is why a nation that has stopped giving birth is losing its population and will soon face extinction. This also shows how important reproduction is to human existence.
If you look at it too, the nations with the highest birth rates are mostly low-income countries, where many families struggle to take care of their children. Meanwhile, the so-called developed nations are experiencing declining birth rates, and many pregnancies are also terminated through abortion, especially where abortion has been legalised. What an irony of life is this?
But then, in the past, in developing nations, people did not need to worry as much about what their children would eat, despite having many children, because food was less of a problem. They produced enough to go around. Now, it is just different. It is difficult for a family of two to even feed themselves properly. It is crazy, right?
We have turned ourselves into pests feeding off their hosts, and all many of us care about is the accumulation of wealth without considering its implications for the masses. There is a saying that it is a capitalist kind of economy that makes a nation progress, but I think it is also what allows a few people to acquire so much wealth while the majority suffer.
I think a socialist or communist kind of economy can be good because it allows for a more even distribution of wealth and does not give room for a few people to acquire excessive wealth without some form of penalty attached to it. You are expected to pay more taxes when you earn more, unless you are being smart about it.
We humans are social beings, and I wonder why we do not see ourselves as people who are only here for a moment. Instead, we prefer to engage in various forms of crime just so we can survive on our own. There is also the saying that humans will do anything they can to survive, and as the saying goes, a hungry man cannot listen to any preaching, no matter how sweet it is.
A lot of people have given various reasons for our existence, but if you are asked, “Why are we here in the first instance?” is it just to give birth and enjoy ourselves? What is our purpose on earth, without sounding biblical about it?
We should not be too hard on ourselves or the people around us because we cannot really live forever. All that matters is to be kind and love people genuinely, no matter how they feel about us. I think the problem we have mostly on earth is that we do not love genuinely. We only love people for what we can get or benefit from them.
