Today was loaded with a lot of work as we celebrated Career Day for our students at work. A day that started as a normal school day extended into the late afternoon, as we could hardly do much teaching. It was only during the first two or three periods that we were able to teach the students.
After a while, the bell was rung to assemble the students under the tree as we prepared them for the event so that they would not miss anything important in the process. Before today, the students had been informed and instructed to come in different costumes and attire to showcase their preferred careers, whether professional or non-professional.
I remembered when I was in school, many of us wanted to become lawyers, doctors, nurses, or military personnel. Today, however, there are various career choices that were not available back then, but which now exist in large numbers. This only highlights the development and evolution of the human race and the need for us to continually adapt whenever necessary. We could never have imagined that AI, which is Artificial Intelligence, would one day keep people out of jobs and reduce manpower requirements. It is a good thing that we are not stagnant and that we continue to utilize the intelligence that nature has bestowed upon us.
We can also create things, just as God has given us the power of dominion and the ability to make exploits.
The students displayed different costumes to showcase their career interests, while teachers from each department stepped forward to encourage them regarding their future aspirations and the subjects they needed to focus on most during their secondary school years. We also reiterated that all subjects are important and that they should treat them as such.
Many of the students chose careers that were common in the past, while others focused on emerging skills, knowledge, and professions such as modelling and data analysis. Many of these students do not yet know exactly what they want, and many of them will eventually pursue careers different from the ones they have chosen today. Many of us have experienced the same thing. Often, it is not the course or career we initially desire that we eventually end up pursuing.
Most of the time, life also happens to us and determines what we eventually become and achieve in life.
