We rarely get any good apples from our two trees, but this year we picked them when they were a bit unripe, which means that their seeds are white - which I didn't know earlier. However, they taste good and they will be great for what we need to use them for - apple pies. Apples are cheap in the stores of course, but there is something great about knowing they are from our own garden.
At least in Australia they say, "an apple a day, keeps the doctor away", which I think is a bit of nonsense. Just because things rhyme, it doesn't make them true, but an apple is better than a bag of chips or candy. And, having an apple instead of some chocolate today feels better, since for the first time in a few years, I went for a run on the road. Not only that, I went with my wife, who has been roped into doing a five-K in a couple months, and she hasn't done any running for even more years. However, my feet can't keep up and after 2 km, I turned back. But I did run, and I did walk quickly home, despite the burning,
I was happy with the start.
And then this evening, we went to the gym as well, where my wife did a HiiT class and I did some stretching and some weight work. So, overall, it was a pretty good day for body conditioning.
I also took Smallsteps for an evening swim in the lake.
I have a couple weeks left in my summer holidays and the plan is to put in some effort and spend some time improving our condition a little. Too late for the summer body, but at our age, looks don't matter that much anymore, but feeling does. Really, we shouldn't be letting ourselves get too out of shape, but it is easy too when either busy for a long time, or relaxing after being busy for a long time.
My wife goes back to work next week, and Smallsteps to school mid-week, so I will have a couple days to spend by myself, but only the days. The weather is looking to warm up also, which is about right for the holidays, isn't it? Despite the incredibly warm end to spring, summer hasn't been as warm as it could have been, so we ended up not doing some of the things we had on our list. Still, we have had mostly fun together and having an easy few weeks around the house before heading back into the groove of "normal" life.
Wouldn't it be nice if normal wasn't filled with obligatory work?
She'll be apples.
