This time, I’m going to tell you about a truly delicious food: Chikuro. In my opinion, it is currently the tastiest snack out there. It features minced chicken fried in a crispy batter with a delicious filling—simply perfect.
Chikuro is a trendy snack consisting of an elongated, crispy chicken roll filled with cheese or a molten sauce. It is made from a mixture of minced chicken coated in breadcrumbs and deep-fried until crispy.
Chikuro offers three size options: medium (18 cm), large (25 cm), and super large (30 cm). There are four filling choices—Royal Garlic Cream Cheese, Furuchizu Sauce, Creamy Mentai, and Green Curry Cream Cheese—along with three flavor options: Signature Japanese Truffle, Sweet BBQ, and Japanese Nori. Additionally, there are four spice levels: No Spicy, Mild, Spicy, and Screaming.
Currently, Chikuro has only two locations in Medan—Medan Fair Plaza and Centre Point Mall—and the one I visited this time was the Centre Point Mall branch. It is just a kiosk-style stall, with no tables or chairs. Despite this, there were so many customers that I had to queue to get my order.
I ordered a Large Chikuro with a royal garlic cream cheese filling, the signature Japanese truffle flavor, and a Spicy heat level.
This is absolutely delicious—packed with a generous filling, featuring chicken that is both tender and crispy, with just the right level of spice. I really love it because the batter tastes like it’s full of chicken; even though they likely use flour and other ingredients, the chicken flavor remains dominant. Plus, the crispy outer layer is dusted with savory truffle powder and spicy chili powder—a perfect, delicious combination.
