We hiked into Sugar Hill Reservoir for our #wednesdaywalk (hosted by @tattoodjay ) This cool bench was on the shore below the dam.
The skies were blue with whispy clouds. There is an island in this small reservoir.
Also nice views of the Green Mountains.
The dam is well maintained and has a tower feeding the outlet to Sucker Brook.
The dam is used to power a hydroelectric generator currently operated by Breen Mountain power. The dam was originally constructed as a part of the Silver Lake Hydroelectric Project in 1916.
Sucker Brook is fed from the dam.
A flood safety map was posted at the dam. I'm safe if the dam bursts but more interestingly it shows how this reservoir fits in with Silver Lake and Lake Dunmore both of which I hike frequently.
The roads up to the dam were muddy and the access road directly to the dam was actually closed for the season.
We were just looking for an afternoon walk so hiking in was fine with us. It was about a mile to the dam. Parts of the trail were shared with the Catamount Cross Country Ski Trail and also the VAST trail system (Vermont Association of Snow Travelers).
I'll finish up with another view of the Green Mountains from the top of the dam. Have a great #wednesdaywalk of your own and thanks for checking out mine 馃檪
