Cider Syrup

Farmstand have a lot of the same stuff. Its fun to find something different. This is Cider Syrup. A new one on me. Cider Syrup is apple cider that has been boiled down to the consistency of syrup.

Cider Syrup

Of course it can be used like maple syrup and drizzled over pancakes or used in cooking as a base for marinades or glazes. But it can also be used as a secret ingredient to intensify the apple taste in a pie or other baked item.

Maple Syrup

Many farmstands will have maple syrup which is a nature for the fall.

Cider

Apple cider is also a must these days. It was very popular in colonial days as an alternative to more expensive beer and safer than questionable water supplies. Cider was less expensive because apple trees grew so well in New England that they were planted everywhere. Grain was not as common so beer was often imported making it much more expensive especially versus homemade cider. Cider has been making a steady increase as an alternative to beer. It is gluten free and perceived as healthier. But mostly people got bored with mass marketed beers and the craft market has gotten saturated (sorry heroldius@heroldius 😆).

You Pick Em

A traditional element of orchard farmstands is you-pick-em and already picked apples. In addition, many have fall raspberries. And some pears usually.

Apples

Apples are the undoubted star of the show. Many farmstands offer mix and match of either pre-picked or you-pick-em.

Swag

And of course some swag to prove you were there or show your affinity for your favorite orchard.

Tshirt

Or show off your true Vermonter status by finding a smaller, less known orchard 😆

Cardinals

Then there are always a few eclectic items like these cute wooden cardinals which are actually a fund raiser Marlene's Cardinals all the proceeds are donated to UVM Cancer center in memory of the artist's wife.

Dog

I'm pretty sure the same artist did this dog that was faithfully watching over the farmstand.
