Golden Spice Pear

A lovely Golden Spice Pear from my tree. Golden Spice pear trees (Pyrus ussuriensis) are an extremely cold hardy variety of pears sometimes called Siberian pears. I have Golden Spice and Ure pears they are often planted together and are considered a good pair for cross pollination.

Pear halved

This pear was perfectly ripe. Juicy but still firm. This is the first year I've had pears in any quantity and wasn't sure when they would ripen. I knew they were ripe because they started falling off the tree 馃槅

Golden Spice Pear Tree

Here is my star pear tree. It was planted on 5/1/2022 as a small bare root tree. This tree is now probably 12-15 feet high.

Tree above

Another picture of the same pear tree from the other side. As you can tell looking at these two photos the lighting was brutal when I was trying to take these pictures. This is probably a part of why this tree has done so well. It gets strong morning light and afternoon sun both.

Apples and pears

I collected a couple of Liberty Apples and a few pears today.

Liberty Apple Tree

My Liberty apple tree is my best growing apple tree. It was planted 11/7/2021 shortly after we moved into our current house. Since it was the end of the season, it was a small potted tree and not bare root.

Unfortunately, we planted it too close to the tree line and it is growing out toward the sunlight away from the morning shadows. I will try and encourage more upright grow with some pruning late this winter/early in the spring. Liberty trees ripen late. About right now, mid-October. We will harvest soon.
