Hello fellow birdlovers. I haven't posted in awhile because we took down our feeders due to a bear incident 馃檨 There are still lots of birds about just they all moved farther away haha I caught this pileated woodpecker along the road on a walk recently. Pileated woodpeckers are pretty common in rural Vermont forests. They are very large, colorful and loud - both their laughing call and the booming sound of this big bird pecking away on dead trees. Pileated woodpeckers can be 16 -20 inches long - as big as crows.
There were actually 3 pileated woodpeckers all working hard on this fence. I think they were juvenilles. Happy #featheredfriday 馃檪
