I selected 12 photos from my recent orchard visits. Both these orchards are in Shoreham, Vermont near Lake Champlain.
Of course, the apples are the focus. We picked a mix of different apples.
All the apple varieties were carefully labeled at the end of each row and on the map but once we put multiple varieties in same bag and brought them home, identification is a challenge 馃槄
Fall raspberries were also still available last weekend although we did have a light frost this morning.
The trees were full of apples. The fall varieties were at peak. Some of the early ripening varieties were already gone.
This a massive orchard. The rows stretch seemingly to infinity (and beyond lol). The you-pick-em crowd usually only picks close to the road/paths. As the varieties start to reach peak/over ripe, the orchard crew steps in and picks the rows clean.
The fun thing about this orchard is that it is very well maintained. Here is an area where they are planting new trees. With the lovely sky and empty trellis, this struck me as a minimalist, modernist set like the way they stage the play Our Town.
Now for the landscape photography 馃檪
The Adirondacks are visible from all throughout the orchard.
The colors are not a peak but they are evident especially on the peaks. Amazingly, the fields are still green and farmers are still putting up hay.
Here is a view from Douglas Orchards. Most of the photos today were from Champlain Valley Orchards.
The same owner operates both orchards now which is nice because they employ the same modern, efficient methods at both orchards. I took this last photo not to highlight the new trees but to show the beautiful sky and fall colors.
