🦉 The Eurasian bullfinch, common bullfinch or bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula)

These cute, plump birds are a true ornament of the autumn and winter forests. They are already present in small numbers in nearby woods, but as winter approaches, their numbers will increase, and they will even appear in our yards.

They have rather distinctive behavior, keeping to small groups or remaining solitary during the winter. They feed on rowan seeds—which they specifically extract from the berries—as well as ash seeds. At bird feeders, they enjoy sunflower seeds. I once tried offering them peanuts, but they were baffled and didn't know what to do with them, as they are accustomed to cracking open shells.
