I have written before about us fostering cats for a local charity. Luna Animal Rescue are overwhelmed with the number of animals they need to find homes for. I find this very sad. The British as supposed to be a nation of animal lovers, but so many people take on a pet without taking the responsibility to care for it for the rest of its life. I get that circumstances may change, but it can be as trivial as worrying about a cat scratching the new couch. Also, some animals, especially cats, ought to be neutered to reduce the number of unwanted babies. Our current cat came to us with five kittens after being found in a stable. I expect she was abandoned when the owner found she was pregnant. We have since had another mother and kittens whose owner did not want them. Luna get all their cats neutered. This all costs money, so they rely on donations to keep going.

Here are some of the cats we have had since the last post. I do not remember all their names and new owners are likely to change them anyway. Luna tend to have themes, so we had Head and Shoulders (body parts, not toiletries) and Margo and Lilibet (royals).

Black beauties

These two were hard to tell apart. You can see where one was shaved for her little operation.

Kittens

These were the second lot of five kittens we had. They were very mixed with one ginger. The cats live in my daughter's room as she is living away. They can get a bit of cabin fever from being cooped up.

Kittens again

Sometimes I got used as a scratching post.

Head and Shoulders

I think this was Head and Shoulders. They were not with us too long as we were supposed to be getting another pregnant mother, but that did not happen in the end.

Meow!

Lap cats

These two went to a new home after a few weeks. That is always very satisfying. The people come to us to see them and then get checked out by Luna to ensure they can provide a suitable home.

Fluffy

This is our latest lodger. She is very friendly and was straight on my lap. She wants more attention than we can give her so she needs a new home soon.

We do not get paid for doing this, but there is a need for foster homes. If you can do it then talk to local organisations. Otherwise they will probably appreciate donations. Animals are the innocent victims of human whims, so we owe it to them to appreciate them more.

Pixie

This is our Pixie who we took on for life. She could stand to lose a little weight. I think she is our sixth rescue cat over about thirty years. There will always be more needing homes.
