I love science. The quest to understand this universe we live in is fascinating. I'm not a scientist myself, but I can still enjoy following developments. Science can be mixed with humour and What if? by Randall Munroe is a great example of this. He's best known for the xkcd comic that often includes science and other geeky stuff. What if started as a web site where his fans sent in crazy questions such as "what happens if everyone in the world jumped in one place?". He then provides a scientific answer that mixes in some humour and includes some of his simple, but effective illustrations. This site has been turned into a book.
I'd read a lot of these on-line, but they were worth re-reading. I think books are a different experience to the web. I tend to skim the web stuff as there's just so much to keep up with, but I may take more time with a book. A lot of these answers tend to end in death and destruction, but that adds to the fun. Nobody is really getting hurt after all. We seem to be seeing more distrust of science, but a basic understanding of it helps you sort out facts from fiction. Don't get me started on the flat earth nonsense. Science is not about opinion as others will rush to prove you wrong.
Anyway, I heartily recommend this book for all ages. Science rocks!
This is my next read. It's a few years old, but seems appropriate for the times we live in.
