The News

It has been a bit of a wild time with $HIVE, but it is good to see it up a bit. There has been some crazy trending volume recently that seems to have been coming from Korea yet again. They seem to trade this and the 'legacy coin' together and the lesser one is ahead for now. We shall see if that lasts.

Prices from @coingecko via my script

I was prompted by some comments by jacobtothe@jacobtothe to compose some haikus on crypto themes and have been Snapping those with #cryptohaiku. It is a fun little exercise.

hivefest@hivefest is kicking off in Barcelona. I have not seen many posts about it so far, but I heard from jza@jza who posted a photo where I recognised a few faces. I was not planning to go this time and I have had a bad cold this week anyway, so I would not want to spread that.

Friday Follows

  • lordbutterfly@lordbutterfly has a new Hive front end with some different tokenomics and discovery methods.
  • I just found horrorweapon@horrorweapon who are an industrial band from Canada. They are posting about some sample packs they have made from old music gear. Some of those are free.
  • The new single from ugochill@ugochill is out. One for those who like rocking guitars.
  • I think I already mentioned it, but soundlegion@soundlegion is putting out some great songs that came from a collaboration with a guitarist.

The Dog House

I have seen some 'discussion' in the Hive Discord and it gets quite heated there. It is fine to disagree with what someone else is building, but we need options on Hive and there is no single 'correct' vision of what it should be.

There will also be some 'blamestorming' about why Hive is not doing great. It may be the DHF or lack of marketing or just a reduction in interest in crypto as AI is the Hot New Thing. We still need alternative platforms that are not controlled by corporations with options for all sorts of people.

Not everyone is going to write great articles or create amazing videos. What most of us can do is discuss our favourite topics. I thought this platform was intended to be some sort of better reddit (hence the original name). If you make good use of communities dedicated to your interests then you should be able to post insights or questions and get some good discussion going. That has value and it is what goes on with a lot of social media. Not everyone can be an 'influencer', but we can interact as humans without any real need for AI.

We have the various short-form options, but I still think those need some improvements to be more useful. A feed full of game updates may not be that interesting to most people, but it could be a news source and for entertainment. That is what Twitter so compulsive, but then it got corrupted and many of us left.

Hive is a technology, but it should be about connecting people. Those should not just be the geeks, but I am definitely not against geeky content.

Post what brings you joy as others may like it too.

The End

I hope I am getting over my cold now so I can get back to running and making some music. Those are things I will happily post about and I find others who like them too. That is what social media should be as far as I am concerned. We have the added incentive of rewards here, but I consider that a bonus and it is not currently enough to keep me here without the socialising.

Hive five!
