I've posted before about my debit card I got from @teambitwala. This allowed me to top up with Bitcoin that I could convert to Euros to spend. It enabled me to buy a nice guitar and travel to Steemfest. Today I had this email.
It seems this affects other cards operated by WaveCrest. I see @dragosroua reported on this too.
Obviously this is very frustrating I was about to transfer some of my Steemit earnings to my card to spend. Now I will have to look at alternatives. If anyone has suggestions of what works in the UK then I am interested. I know some people will buy Steem or SBD directly for Paypal or other funds. I could be interested in that, but there are obviously trust issues. Generally I'll look for convenience rather that the optimal exchange rate.
Although cryptocurrencies cannot easily be shut down, it can be made harder to use them. I know Bitwala had to stop operating in the US due to tax reporting issues and other cards are not available in particular territories.
Ideally we want to be able to spend cryptocurrency directly. I'll be looking to do that where I can.
Update: This from Bitwala says they are looking at other card providers. Apparently Wirex are also looking at alternatives. I'll keep an eye out.
Steem on!
I'm Steve, the geeky guitarist.
I'll buy guitar picks for Steem Dollars
