Well, that was a hard, tough week emotionally. Losing my friend took a bigger toll on me than I thought, but I’ll save that for another time. I just haven’t been mentally “there” enough to keep up with Actifit, Hive, Blurt.. honestly just anything in general. Including physical exercise. But, I’m finally pulling myself out of it, and it’s feeling good.

The day started a little later than I had planned, but sleeping in for once also felt good. There’s not much to do in this town once the sun goes down; unless of course you drink.. and there’s plenty of that. I, of course, miss the social aspect that came with drinking, but the toll it was taking on me physically outweighed the positive. All that is to say, my bed time has been becoming earlier and earlier with the changing seasons. I am so ready for winter, when the Bowl lights will be on until 10pm and my nights will be filled with post-work snowboarding. In this awkward in-between time of year.. well, once I get cold it’s just time to lay down and try to force myself to sleep.

So, I’ve been getting up naturally extremely early.. even if it means just going right back to bed. But yesterday, I took the opportunity to just lay there and soak in my day off. I knew I would regret not getting down the hill though, so I caught the 9:15 bus down to the skatepark and got a couple of hours of pushing in. Or 10 miles, as I’ve gotten into the habit of running Strava while I skate; for nothing other than curiosity.

About half way through the session, one of my coworkers showed up whom I haven’t skated with yet. In fact, other than the passing wave or small talk on the loop, I haven’t really gotten the opportunity to see anyone outside of work. Fortunately, I work with a really great, small group of people; and as I desperately need friends, it’s nice to start recognizing more faces around and spending some time with people outside of the professional setting. It also helps that we’re at a pretty similar level of skating, so we played some S.K.A.T.E.(it’s just H.O.R.S.E. but for skateboarding), and shot the shit for a little bit before I had to take off. I’d spend all day at the park if I could, but considering I can really only get out of town one day a week what with my current schedule; the gym and errands were calling my name.

I was particularly sweaty after the park session, so after dropping off my stuff in the gym locker, I took a much needed shower before heading over to Freddy’s. Some dirt bag had stolen some toiletries from me the last time I was at the gym, so I had to re-up. I also managed to lose my headphones.. maybe not permanently, but as only one worked to begin with I decided it was time for a new pair. I got cheap-ies… something I immediately regretted after taking them out of the packaging. But hey, whatever.. at least I have something for the bus. I also walked outta there with a Bluetooth keyboard, which I’m really excited about as my computer is still down and out and I’ve grown so so tired of typing on this little touch screen. We’ll see how well it works, but the short test run I did this morning before clocking in at the restaurant was promising.

I ran a couple other little boring errands, food and the like, and managed to make it back to the gym with a couple hours to spare. I am still pretty “gym stupid”- like I really have no routine or designated schedule; hell, half the time I don’t even know what the equipment does until I use it. But, I’m learning, in my own, dumb, special way. Frankly I don’t really care as long as I walk out of there exhausted and clean.. as the showers here are MUCH more convenient than my other options.

I high-tailed it to the bus stop, caught the last bus up the hill, and tried to force myself to get to bed early. I was pretty exhausted; HOURS of nonstop skating, the gym, and carrying a bunch of shit everywhere in between.. I had no idea why I wasn’t as tired as I “should have” been. But hey, thats life (shrug).

Pretty boring, meat and potatoes post today as my mind is still in mourning and I’m a little brain dead as a result, but I figured getting back into the habit of a little daily journaling might help kick start my empty head back into gear. Looking forward to catching up on what’s been going on in this space, and I wish you all a happy Wednesday :)
