Good afternoon Actifitters! Or morning, evening, noon, midnight, dawn…. wherever the hell you all are at. Today I bring you yesterday- yet another uneventful, weird season day for this guy. It’s funny how my daily step average has gone down since I have started running, although that’s probably due to many recent life changes and unpredictable factors.
My charging port on my phone is pretty shot, which creates most of my day not being accounted for accurately. Which is fine, I just have to remind myself that I am not being quite as lazy as the numbers are expressing. Most of my days currently are divided into work and post-work, and most of my work day, the phone is on the charger. A constant cycle of getting up to somewhere above 50%, and then tanking that on any given break. Any smart person would just get a new phone- but preparatory decision making is not exactly prevalent in my life.. so I just continue to battle my refurbished, shot battery every night, morning and day.
It’s colder now, and the days are shorter, and I am living in a vehicle.. which translates to a lot more time at “home” than in my past. Once that sun goes down, being outside seems less inviting than ever- especially knowing that it’s gonna be cold when I get home, and it’s too early in the year to start wasting heat. So, most of my day after clocking out usually comprises of getting home, fitting in however much running I feel, and crawling under the covers. I also often find myself wondering why my step count is so low after a decent run.. and then remember the OH SO OBVIOUS fact that your strides are longer when you run. I’m used to looking at a walking mileage and mentally translating into steps.. and that number is quite different now.
I started writing ^ that nonsense during my lunch break, and now 5 hours later i frankly have no interest in talking about my step count any further. Not really sure why I did to begin with. I’m not sure what’s been going on upstairs in the ol’ noggin these last couple of days, but it hasn’t been great. My days at work I’ve been in a downright horrible mood, and I couldn’t for the life of me tell you why. I like my job, I like my coworkers, and I feel fine at night. My mood is constantly swinging.
Today I can attribute part of it to customers. My god, were people rude today. If you ever want to see humanity’s true face, work a little bit in retail. I’m not sure why people tend to show their ugly side once they walk into a store; but they truly do. It’s remarkable how unaware people are of how they treat others.. and even worse they see anyone who works with the public as below them. It’s heartbreaking in all honesty.. not for how I am being treated but when I put it into perspective of how often this happens on a daily basis to so many. I’ve seen some bad shit go down in these places.
But thats neither here nor there; this is supposed to be about Actifit after all. I keep pushing away the thought of writing about my seemingly mundane daily routine, as I don’t find it all that interesting.. but I guess I should look at the big picture a little bit. If I continue running, continue sobriety, continue personal progress, bla bla bla.. it would be nice to be able to look back at these early stages to see how things went along the way. So!
The morning was spent using one charger to charge another charger to charge my phone. I can’t wait to sort this out so I can laugh at the absurdity of my living situation right now. So, although I did do some frantic walking around before work, the phone was out of commission for it. Work was work, not a ton to report on the exercise front. I got down the mountain pretty tired and over being outside; although I had one hour more of daylight than I would for the following two days, so I forced myself to take advantage of it. Also, that “one hour” of extra daylight is now less so, and will continue to shorten.. so I don’t have a lot of work days where I see any form of the sun for awhile now. So, i convinced myself to change into my trail pants and go for a run.
This one was harder than most recent excursions. I didn’t feel too tired, really.. just sluggish. No soreness, no nothing.. just finding it difficult to keep my legs moving at a quicker pace than a casual stroll for more than a few minutes. Prior to this pst week, I haven’t really been on top of my consistency, so maybe the past four days of consecutive running is the culprit. Normally I start to get a second wave around a few miles, but not this time. I even pushed it to five miles, against my own will, thinking at some point it would just click. Nope. But hey, I’m glad I at least tried.
I fell for my oldest trick in the book afterwards. My new oldest trick in the book, that is. I told myself I’d go inside for a bit before continuing with my day. I should know by now, that that just means curtains. Especially now that it’s cold. Once them shoes are off, I’m in for the night. I guess the fact that pizza was on the dinner menu helped as well. It’s been months of nothing but the same old sandwiches from work.. it was honestly thrilling to eat something else. Much love, friends
