Recently all of the spuds have been dug up and we had quite the successful harvest. I made a short video showing off the spuds that we grew. A few of them were huge and the rest were market size. I do not have a scale at the moment to weigh them but I think I have about 25 pounds of them at least. I grew these from cuttings of spuds and also via the propagation of slips.
I gave the big ones to my friends and saved the smaller ones for myself. I am now storing them under my bed and I check on them every so often to make sure they are now rotting in certain areas. But I had the chance to taste them and they have a very rich flavor. The sweetness and the smell of these roasting in the oven is amazing.
All of these should last many months, I am curious to see if they will last into the summer and fall of next year but I doubt it. I eat alot of them so I think maybe a few months is all I will get out of all of these. My goal is eventually to grow enough where I will always have more than I need for the year, so I do not have to buy any at the local supermarket.
Amazed they all grew so well in just wood chips, I find myself impressed more and more as I use my wood chips to grow different things in it. As we were pulling out the spuds I found alot of mycelium growing throughout the bed, making me think it is a healthy ecosystem in those beds. The spuds we got were huge so maybe the mycelium helps deliver nutrients to the spuds some how.
Below is a short video showing off the spuds, I added some music to go along with the short video. I just scroll across the table where they are all set up. We lay them out on towels after washing any dirt or woodchips found on them and they dried out over night before I stored them in boxes.
