Reusing old materials helps to keep them out of land fills, and with a little creativity many things that would be thrown away can be re-purposed. I have been recycling for many years now, more specifically metal scrapping. By collecting soda cans, old circuit boards, batteries, heat sinks from computers, and when I find scrap aluminum I tend to keep it until I can fill up my truck and take them down to the local recycling center. Not only am I helping these items stay out of the city dump. I get paid for collecting, preparing and organizing these materials. I have made thousands of dollars over a decade doing this and happy I am doing my part to keep the planet a little cleaner. I have learned alot about metals, organizing and what to look for in scrap metal harvesting. Here are some minnows on Hive that are working hard to reuse what they have on hand.

Reusing old bottles is a great way to save money on mason jars and other storage containers. By using what you already have at hand helps plastics not to go into land fills. Many consumers plastics can be reused time and time again so its good to see others making use of them storage grains, salt sugar and other things inside. Keep in mind some plastics do not age well, crack and break down but if you are aware of the kind you are using then it can be a great alternative to store food in.

Empty toilet paper rolls is something we throw away all the time. But this hive user re-purposed one to become a pencil holder. Using every day scraps they glue and cut a new container out of an old toilet paper roll. It came out great, I can hardly tell it was a toilet paper roll in a previous life.

When working with crafts, we tend to have some left overs. Well not in this case, the The Textile Recycling Project aims to make use of these scraps of cloth, by adding them all together to make a large quilt, or clothes or whatever needs to be made at the time. I think all those patterns added together gives it an artistic look.

Sometimes you just want to add an extra touch to an existing item around the house. Well this user makes a Tutu for a jar, using an old plastic bag, scissors and some tape they give this jar an extra look to it with some waste products. Any way you can keep them out of the dump is a good use for them. And I think its cute that jar now has a tutu... haha

Plants do not care if you put them in a terracotta pot, or an old water bottle. As long as they have enough room to space out inside they are mostly happy. Now if your growing edible foods keep in mind the plastics may find their way into the foods. But for ornamental plants it really does not matter. I have used old plastic juice containers to put plants in and they work well for awhile. Glad to see others growing plants in old food and drink containers as well.
Thats my curation of five minnows on the Hive Blockchain for the week. Stay tuned next week to see the next five of Solo's picks.
