About a week ago I went to a Japanese steamboat placed called Shabu Gioin with some friends for a celebration. This is my first time eating here and I will be giving a full review and break down in this post.
Shabu Gion is a Japanese steamboat restaurant located in Uptown Damansara which is in Malaysia. The restaurant specializes in steamboat so for those that don't know it's basically cooking fresh vegetables and meat in a soup base. Something important to note is that this place is ala carte and not a buffet style. I think something interesting about this place was that everyone had their own place to heat up the soup base and cook the stuff they want. Normally in most steamboat restaurants there would be a spot in the center and everyone would share but I guess this is expected of a place that is a bit more high end than the average steamboat restaurant.
Ambience
From the pictures below, you can see the place is well decorated and has a nice setup. The people working there were quite welcoming. The seats were comfortable and I think overall the place had a nice atmosphere to bring family and friends to enjoy a nice steamboat.
Menu
They had a lot of food to choose from in the menu. I made a collage below so you could see almost the whole menu from a glance. There's different soup bases to choose from as you can see. You can also choose different noodles and there's tons of meat, seafood and vegetables to cook in the soup. The meat were a bit higher quality as you can tell from the photos by the marbling,
Food
I chose to have the Kimchi Soup base. I also chose to have the ramen and the udon noodles. As for the meat and other stuff, the group chose one of the group sets and we just shared that.
Kimchi Soup Base
This was the Kimchi soup base that I ordered. It was actually really nice and I'm not sure how to describe it. It had the kimchi taste of course but I think the taste is probably a bit unique and would be a hit or miss for certain people.
Noodles and Veges
This was the the ramen or udon I forgot which. I just remember I forgot to take a picture of one of the noodles haha. The noodles were good and the veggies well I ate some of them and gave the rest to another person.
Meats
These were the meats that we ordered. They were super delicious. I liked them all and honestly would've been able to ate more but since the bill was going to be split I didn't think it would be good for me to order more since everyone else was full after these three plates.
Seafood
This was the seafood platter. I had the squid, shrimp and the fish. They were all fresh and tasted great!
Watermelons & Palate Cleanser
There were some watermelons which was nice and cool to have after eating a lot of heaty food. There was also a drink to help cleanse our palete. We didn't order any desserts We actually went to a dessert shop for desserts and since it's a difference place I'm not including it in this post.
Shabu Gion was an amazing Japanese Steamboat. I would give it a 10 out of 10. I can't really find anything to complain about. The food tasted great and was quality at an affordable price for the quality in my opinion. The staff were friendly and quick to respond to requests. The atmosphere was great and I enjoyed the food and the time spent there. It's definitely a great place to bring family or friends to have a nice steamboat dinner.
