Ingredients (for 12 units)

  • 1 cup of yellow or white cornmeal
  • 1 cup of all-purpose wheat flour
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • ½ cup of white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 quart of canola or vegetable oil for frying
  • 12 sausages of your choice
  • 12 wooden skewers

Preparation

Preheat the canola oil in a kettle or fryer over medium heat.
Insert the skewers or wooden sticks into the sausages and cut them if necessary so that they fit in the fryer.
In a medium bowl, mix cornmeal, wheat flour, salt, sugar and baking powder. In another bowl, beat the egg with the milk and add to the cornmeal mixture.
Dry the sausages with absorbent paper and cover with wheat flour so that the corn cover sticks.
Put the sausages in the mixture and cover them completely on all sides. Immediately, place them in hot oil for cooking. Let them brown on one side for 15 or 20 seconds and twist gently with metal tongs to continue cooking.
Cover and add another corn dog to the fryer; cook 2 at a time until lightly browned, about 3 minutes.
Drain on paper towels and serve with ketchup and mustard.
