Hail to the Hive!
Yesterday I was asked to climb up on the roof to install a new tv aerial so my father in law could watch the world cup final. I was just going to watch in my i pad but, despit being scared of heights, I felt duty bound as the prodigal son in law to oblige. While I was up there looking at the old defunct satellite dish and other things I couldn’t help but realise thst this was a perfect place to launch the drone from.
So today, now all the world cup excitement has subsided, I faced my fears and went back up for a bit of flying practice. Now from the back yard I don’t have the line of sight to be brave enough to send the drone to far, but from up here I decided to push the envelope a bit.
Now there were a few wires and ting but they weren’t really near the take of and landing zone so up I went.
Up up and away!
Once over the first few rows of houses it was just fields and because I had line of sight I thought I’d send the bird a bit further than I have been brave enough to so far and past the edges of the whole housing scheme.
Now according to the specifications this drone is supposed to be able to fly 10km away but no way I’m doing that yet so today I went 1km away before I started to worry about losing it. Yeh yeh I know they are supposed to fly home to home point if they lose signal but I’m not ready to test that theory yet.
I have to say though I was happer sending it a little further knowing the bird had a direct line of sight to the controller and therefore the signal shouldn’t have been blocked. Hmm dare I go 1.5 km tomorrow?
I may test it a little further tomorrow and see how I go. Considering this is all just practice am very happy with the images in this location. But the flying bug is getting me now so hungry for some more locations to spy on! 😄.
